Impunity Watch visits CIGE

On Thursday, 20 June 2019, CIGE welcomed at its premises a representative from Impunity Watch, an international non-profit human rights organization seeking to promote accountability for past atrocities, notably in countries emerging from a violent past. Impunity Watch focuses on victim participation in transitional justice processes and is supporting Iraqi civil society to promote even-handed and victim-centred justice in Iraq. During the meeting, CIGE and Impunity Watch discussed respective mandates and ongoing activities, and their shared objective in bringing victims of international crimes at the forefront of any justice effort in the country. In line with this common ambition, CIGE and Impunity Watch explored possible avenues of future cooperation, particularly in regards to victims’ right to a remedy and access to information in light of ongoing excavation efforts in the country.
